To help me create my own College magazine front cover I looked at various college magazines that were designed by last year 12 this helped me show an insight of how college magazines can look like. As you can see above I have analysed the front cover magazines to show the conventions that are placed on the magazine and how affective they are. The magazines above are college magazines however specifically a media college magazine.

The ‘Lordswood’ magazine is a media magazine as this can be shown through the main image and through is also encoded through the mise en scene used of the camera being a prop. The target audience of the magazine is for college students from the age of ’16-18’ students. This can also be shown through the main image of a female student who the reader presumes is at college or belongs to ‘Lordswood’ sixth form centre as the masthead shows the name of the college.

The use of mise en scene with the costume that the main image is wearing is very casually dressed. The props used of the camera signify or helps to show the genre of the magazine or elements shown of a media magazine. The masthead of the magazine is ‘Lordswood’ which is a sixth form centre as said before the main image may relate to the name of the masthead. There is also a kicker placed on the magazine ‘Exclusive students interviewed sixth formers tell all!!’ the use of the kicker I believe does not anchor the main image which the purpose of the kicker is normally to anchor the main image, and is the main importance of the whole front cover of the magazine however this is not shown as the main image is of a young female student, the use of acting of her making eye contact with the camera suggests the importance of the magazine is on the media aspects which I believe the kicker would have been suitable for a media theme that related to main image. The use of straplines helps to interest the reader through the competition which helps to hook the reader. Also the magazine is free which there is no purchase that has to be made by the audience. The typeface used is limited as only one font is used which helps to interest the reader as there’s not a lot going on the page to confuse the reader in any way and also help to convey the main images importance. The is also a skyline placed on the magazine which contains the date and through the skyline helps the reader know what type of genre the magazine is. there is also visual straplines used which looks affective and eye catching but do not anchor the main image or any straplines on the front cover of the magazine.
